Alabama is a state located in the Southeastern portion of the United States, bordered by Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee. Alabama is known perhaps most famously as being one of the states that seceded from the Union during the American Civil War, and many families in Alabama still hold true to the traditions of the period. Giant plantations are not unheard of, and the entire state is ripe with history and culture.

For years Alabama was one of the main agriculture centers of the United States, with farms being the main source of jobs in the state. However, the state was also nearly broke and its citizens weren’t much better off – during the Great Depression, Alabama was hit particularly hard by the loss of jobs and the Dust Bowl, and until the end of World War II it was merely a shadow of its former self. After the war ended, Alabama found itself with a ton of wartime manufacturing plants – it had begun to transform from agriculture to manufacturing during the war, as there was ample land to be built up for manufacturing – and those plants all ended up turning into plants that manufactured goods for civilians instead of guns and ammunition for the war effort.

Today Alabama’s industry is centered around aerospace technology, steel and textiles, and its school districts are perhaps some of the best in the country. Its colleges score particularly high in the academics and athletic categories. Scholarships are on the rise and jobs are still plenty…maybe a bit less so in this economy, but overall still plentiful.

Alabama is located in the Southeastern United States, and therefore shares a lot of the same geographic and meteorological tendencies as its neighbors. The average temperature in the state is just 64 degrees throughout the year, but during the summer months temperatures can get as high as 90 degrees during the day, dropping into the high 40’s overnight. During the winter months, temperatures can drop to around 40 degrees and below freezing overnight, but that’s really during the depths of the season – during fall and spring, temperatures are warmer on the summer sides of the seasons.
