Auto shippers know that cancellations happen; no matter what the reason, auto shippers expect it, but most cancellations happen because of the customer. Auto shippers do their best to move your vehicle, but you, as a customer, need to inform your auto shipper if there are things that may affect your auto transport. The most important thing that you can inform auto shippers of is the size of the vehicle. If you are moving an oversized vehicle, don’t misrepresent it to try and get a lower price – auto shippers base prices not just on the route of the shipment but also on the size of the vehicle. If your vehicle is an oversized dual-wheel pickup truck, you need to inform the auto shippers of this because if you don’t, the auto shipper may contract a carrier that cannot move it, costing you time and money. Because of this, auto shippers do their best to make sure that they get all the dimensions of a vehicle prior to booking an order, but you need to let the auto shippers know if they forget to ask.

Another reason why customers cancel on their auto shippers is that they expect pickup on a certain day. Auto shippers who are legitimate will never guarantee a pickup or delivery date; all pickup times are estimated, and auto shippers should tell them that. But because customers don’t listen well, or because they aren’t paying attention, they expect their vehicles to be picked up on a certain day, and that just isn’t the case. Auto shippers will give you a pickup window – generally one to ten days – for your vehicle to be picked up.

Customers often times will arrange transport with auto shippers and then completely forget about it. Then they go and make other plans that directly conflict with what the auto shippers have arranged, and instead of keeping with what they had agreed on they forget their auto shippers and leave them to figure out what to do after they cancel. This is frustrating for auto shippers because it makes their cancellation rate higher, which in turn makes the numbers for all auto shippers look worse in the eyes of customers.

Ultimately, just make sure that auto shippers know what you’re shipping, how big the vehicle is, and make sure that you don’t forget about your auto shippers. It’s important to keep in contact with your auto shippers and make sure that if anything changes you let them know ahead of time so they don’t send an auto shipper to pickup your vehicle three weeks early, or, worse yet, send the wrong type of carrier. If you are shipping a duly pickup, and you fail to let your auto shippers know, they will send a carrier who doesn’t have the capabilities to ship it. This wastes time for everyone and, for auto shippers, it can cost money. So just let your auto shippers know what is going on, for everyone’s sake.
