Jacksonville is a city in and it is also the county seat of Duval County, Florida; according to the official 2000 US Census the population of the city was over 794,000. Jacksonville was originally founded as an outpost near a narrow crossing of the St. John River, which was a frequently-used cattle crossing. It was named after Andrew Jackson in 1822 – this was before he was President, when he was just the state’s territorial governor. During the 1960’s the city experienced some economic downturn, though it has overcome it and today it is once again flourishing.

During the summer months average temperatures in the city hit around 90 degrees or so during the day, with lows typically dropping thirty degrees or more, to around 70. During the winter months, however, average highs top out around 68 degrees during the day, with overnight lows dropping to around 40 degrees or so overnight.
