Chicago is a city in the state of Illinois and it is the largest in the state, with a population of over 2.8 million residents; it is currently the third largest city in the United States, after New York City and Los Angeles. Chicago was founded in 1833 and quickly became a major railroad hub in the northwest (at the time), and the city grew as more settlers came to the region looking for a new life out west. It was the site of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 which destroyed almost one third of the city, and it is also known for its many mobsters who roamed the streets during Prohibition.

During the winter months, however, average highs hit around 40 degrees, with lows often dropping to around 28 degrees overnight.
